Not 38-40, it's a new one for me that has piqued my interest.Too much neck for a .38-40, but I like whatever it is.
It is an absolutely lovely cartridge. I have one in a Marlin 1894. Mine is the old one, but they made them in recent times too.Not 38-40, it's a new one for me that has piqued my interest.

That’s the new top secret 6.5 HUSH. The cartridge equivalent of ears tucked into a flat bill. Not really a "name that cartridge," because I have no idea what it is. Found this over a year ago at a range, if I remember correctly it was a Creedmoor case. The only thing I can figure is..... well, I have no idea what happened here. The pic was still on my phone and this thread reminded me. Any ideas, mutant wildcat, freak accident???

Nah, that's a 6.5 senator Ackley improved right there.. dead give away, take something effective and doublefuck it up.That’s the new top secret 6.5 HUSH. The cartridge equivalent of ears tucked into a flat bill.
Or maybe they tried to fire it in a .308?
That is a weird one. Not sure how you could shoot in the wrong chamber and get that crisp of a shoulder, unless the shoulder was set like that. I'm guessing they used a 6.5pcc reamer set/fishinsh the shoulder? Not really a "name that cartridge," because I have no idea what it is. 25-25 Stevens? I'm dredging some very old grey matter, so may have that a bit off the mark. Here’s one for the guessing:
