That's a good buck out of 2B. The only time you can see a decent number of bigger deer is when the snow starts getting heavy in CO. Those early hunts can be tough. But it sure is nice to spend a week in some nice country. The only thing that would make 2B better is if they shut off the gas pumps when they close the roads. Hard to find a quiet place to camp.

Sage, as you probably know, the rifle hunts in 2A, B and C haven't taken place during any real migration for years. In fact, the late archery hunt is the closest thing to a "migration" hunt these days. Thus far, this is the biggest buck confirmed killed in 2B this year.

I hunt Southern Colorado adjacent to the Ute reservation during the same time as this and the same is holding true. The temps are too warm too late and many deer simply don't migrate. Still some good local deer to be had, but the good old days are long gone for now. That and New Mexico's predator population is out of control. I hate to say it, but according to the old timers, the deer population has dropped as the amount of oil and gas exploration and drilling in the region has increased. Too much noise and human activity I guess. Sounds like the perfect combination of several factors to me...
