My 2023 elk hunt

Day 1 looking over some good looking elk country. Only spotted a cow and calf.



Day 2 ankle is quite broken. Spent 7 hours at the ER in Ely.
It's going to require surgery. Needless to say elk hunt is over on morning of day 2.

Well I was stepping up onto a rock ledge only about 2 feet up. As I was stepping up my boot slipped off and caught the rock below causing my foot to bend straight up towards my knee. I've never experience so much pain in my life. This was a first for me.
I do have a sheep tag.
I've already filled out the tag return form and checked the box to hopefully defer my sheep and elk tag till next year.

I recall a few years back one of the guys on here was packing up his truck and trailer to head out before sunrise on a big hunt but decided to check the straps on the trailer one last time and as went to jump down to the ground his hunt ended before he got out of the driveway. Sorry this happened. I usually get banged up on mountain hunts but have been lucky so hopefully this is your last dust up with Mother Nature.

Did the hunt already start?

If so, I don't think you can defer the elk tag. The Sheep tag should be GTG with the medical.

Surely sucks.
