Guys,

Looking for a WAG on a muzzle velocity for my muzzleloader. I will be fine tuning at the range, but I am hoping someone may have chronographed something similar to get me started:
27" Barrel
50 cal (.45) 300 Grain Hornady SST Sabot
(2) 50/50 Triple Seven Pellets (100 grain equivalent charge)
209 Primer

Like I said, just looking to get close.

Thanks!

I run Black Horn and a 350 gr Kodiak or Speer Hot core out of a 28inch TC and I have chrono'd my load at 1850. I would think 1750-1800 is about right.

Thanks guys. That's what I needed to know.

From my rough calcs, 3" high at 100 should put me zeroed at 150 and 8-9" low at 200, which is as far as I can shoot anyway.

Edit to my above post as I found my range notes from when I was testing the load mentioned above. It was NOT 1850, but 1937. Smoking hot and accurate.

A chronograph will give you the best answer as bullet/sabot/rifle/powder/primer variations will have a bearing on velocity. From chronographed loads done by others, it seems 100 grains of 777 pellets gets about the same velocity as 100 grains of pyrodex pellets. 100 grains of granular ff, 777 will likely give you higher velocity, and fff 777 will boost the velocity a little more. For whatever it's worth I would guess you are getting 1700 fps.
