This is the buck I took the 4th day of hunting in South Dakota. I was able to hunt a great area in '01, but the owners of the land decided they wanted to hunt it themselves in '02. Because of that I was only able to hunt in some lesser quality areas. The second day of the hunt I rattled in a good buck (a little bigger than the one I ended up shooting) but decided to wait for something bigger. After that I saw nothing but dinks and decided to shoot this guy the evening before the last day.
This buck was bedded in the fence row when I located him from about a mile away. I ran out of cover on two different stalks, but got to about thirty yards on the third one. I could only see his head through the grass so I grunted and when he turned his head I found his neck and dropped him in his bed.
He is not the biggest whitetail I have shot, but he was still alot of fun.
