I'm sure Jon is a nice guy and he's done some good things for MT but just too far left for me.
Did anyone see their debate last weekend?? I missed the live broadcast but they replayed it again Sunday night. It was very strange Jon had a notepad and pen and was writing and checking talking points and would not even barely look at Tim as they were talking, but he kept after his notepad to get little jabs in and to me he looked like he was very uncomfortable. I think he knows he is in jeopardy of losing his lobbyist cow, I hope Jon gets to spend more time on his farm in 2025. Tim seemed more comfortable more original thoughts not from a team of people on a notepad and calm.

I've done well too. Wages up, investments way up. There have been lots of articles on this lately....the economy is doing better
than expected and inflation seems to have been stabilized at a low level.

There are more job options than ever, maybe he isnt willing to move or take a different job?
I’m a 4th generation rancher/farmer. Little difficult to pack up and move.

Show me one senator whose wealth came from a salary of $174,000.00.

It doesn’t take more than a single term to see corruption and the senate is loaded with it…
Blah, blah...any other conspiracy theories you want to share? A picture of Elvis you took last week or something?

I am honestly curious how you are it better off. None of this price increase flowed to you? I understand the cattle market pretty well and know that the price below isn’t what you sell at before they are loaded on the truck, but to not get any of that benefit is terrible. Ranchers can blame whatever politician they want but that is clearly the wrong place to start.

The economy is doing okay for some, If your wage kept up with inflation you are doing fine, if not you are likely struggling.
I think there are some storm clouds on the horizon. The small manufacturing (300+employees) factory just laid off 12% of there workforce and not just the dead weight according to my son. The company manufactures attachments for farm/construction equipment. If they are having to lay off good employees the people that they sell likely are also seeing a slow down.

Most of us relate the health of the economy to our personal micro financial situation. However, there are quantifiable long established factors which define the health of the economy at a national macro level, which is what the Fed Reserve and other institutions analyze. By recent reports the national economy is doing well. That state of the economy is mistakenly attributed to whatever administration is in the White House ... but really has little bearing on the current state of the economy. Likely Biden's economic health can be attributed in part to policies of Trump, Obama, and even prior Presidents.

The escalation of prices is not new, but certainly gets our attention in an alarming way. The roller coaster economic and financial conditions for farmers and ranchers has forever been a challenge, which certainly justifies and supports farm subsidies and insurance programs. You need a strong will and work commitment to the "next crop" to be a farmer or rancher!

Break it down for me. Like I said, I’m very curious. The price of cattle jumped 50% over those 3 years. I doubt the input costs jumped so much to make it unprofitable. Diesel costs are higher so shipping cost is definitely higher. The antibiotics and insecticides are surely higher but they are relatively small cost. Grass is main driver and it is variable and local. There has to be something I’m missing.

Biden created an executive order to create more meat processors and diversify the food chain. Ranchers could Co-op and apply for the grant monies. There are a lot of options for change.

I’m beginning to lump ranchers in with coal miners and oil workers. Most can’t see the forest for the trees.

Well, like any thread of a political nature, thirteen pages has resolved nothing. I didn't even read most of the last six pages. Got better things to invest my time in early on a Monday morning.

Redirecting folks to other topics with the lock.
