Oak, I've got a question about your last picture in the first series. I think that's what we call a pine martin out here, polecat elsewhere and sometimes just a plain old weasel. Anyway, I've got some sort of critter chewing through phone wire and bungie cords and tossing one of my trail cams on the ground. Whatever is doing this then beats and scratches the hell out of the camera and drags it a foot or so away and leaves it laying there on its face. The critter is also pretty fast and sneaky because I've yet to get a single picture of it day or night. It also later jumps into the pond I've got the camera overlooking and muddies up the water. This has been going on for 4 months.
My questions: Are pine martins known for being territorial? Do they hate trailcams that much? And like most other weasels, do they like swimming in water? Sure would like to get a picture of whatever is beating my cam up. Maybe you can shed some light on what might be happening. Tx, DD PS, Great shots a usual.
Hmmm... a mink maybe? Wouldn't think I'd have something so classy terrorizing my property, but you never know. Could be. Stranger things have happened. (PS, this is in Northeast California at about 6,500 feet.) Or is it minks that swim so well instead of weasels? Where's Mark Trail when you need him?
