".......The Bush Administration has been steadily dismantling the works of previous presidencies, both Republicans and Democrats, in environmental protection. Commonly, these actions are timed in such a way as to creep under the radar of the nation’s repetitive, follow-the-leader 24/7 news operations.
Visitors to national parks will see the wonders that they hoped and traveled great distances to see. However, the infrastructure in many parks is crumbling, park employees are increasingly being forced to put up with substandard housing or a lack of housing, and some areas are closed because of the lack of maintenance.
Meanwhile, the administration has worked assiduously to expand such outrages as snowmobiling in Yellowstone National Park and removing federal protection from timber wolves, a program that has in recent years substantially increased the numbers of wolves in national parks and other federally owned land. Other actions are less visible: concessions to mining and logging operations, watering down the Clean Air Act, cutting back on toxic-waste clean-up, and using forest fires as a reason for weakening protection of national forests.
