Moose hunt cut short?

Nice work you son of a beech!!! You need a bigger truck man...........

So how many freezers you own now, probably trade them all in for a new truck:)

Awesome job man, !!!

Wow! Congrats, that this is amazing i didnt realize that double was that big.

Let me know when you start cutting meat, i have some room in my freezer.

Outfitter pressure was unbelievable this year. One of the two outfitters in the valley killed a sub 50 bull the day we arrived. The other POS out of Montana had dudes on horses from one end of the valley to the other. They were also flying 2 planes EVERY day twice a day looking for moose. I guess for $15,000 you better get your moose at whatever cost.

On the final approach to my bull I ran into the outfitter and his dude on horse back. I was maybe 100 yards from where we'd last seen this bull 2 hours before and figured he was bedded for the day. A quick chat with them and telling them that we were about to get into a bull right here, the outfitter said he was just passing through not to worry about him. So off in to the brush they went... right where I thought the bull was bedded.

Unfuggin believable!!!

I climbed the hill about 100 yards, hoping to let them push the lower section and me the upper and run the bull to my hunting partners... No bull ran out. I circled back around to make one more push a little higher. If I had to bet, they'd spotted that bull from the air the evening before and was taking the dude into kill it. They didn't care about us, we're taking food out of their childcare's mouths...

The bull ended up being about 400 yards to the left and slightly lower than were we'd spotted him the two previous days. My partners had no shot from their position. Then I noticed the that the outfitter and dude had unloaded and were trying to get into position for a shot on the bull. They were considerably closer, but unfortunately for them, 400 yards with is not out of my comfort range. Bang, bang... dead bull.

Now for the fun part, maybe next time I'll tr to find one a little closer to the strip. I broke moose hunting rule No. 1 again... and shot one over a mile from the strip... well over a mile. 3 days later he was packed up and out...

This moose hunting is over rated. :) I just finished packing out bull number 3 for the year. I think I'm going to let my back have a week or two off.

Man you like to draw a story out. Glad you ended up with the shot opportunity I bet that outfitter was pissed I would have loved to see it.

You mean you couldn't get one of those horseback outfitters to pack your moose back to the strip?

If you have any extra moose, let me know.

I don't think the horse back guys where too impressed with us by the time we were done. We thnk the other bull we killed was 'super cubbed' the day before. We saw the a-holes making circles about half a mile from where we killed him. The last night we had one fly over us about 10 min before we put the smack down on the second bull. The following morning we passed horses on the hill as we were packing meat. We're pretty sure they were headed to look for our bull. Its not hard to spot them from the air at half a mile or more.

I think the highlight of the trip was me calling in a 'guide' and his fatassed client to about 35-40 yards. They had the drop on us, so when I whistled the Old Spice tune, I made sure I had the bino's trained on thier face. The look the dude gave was priceless. $15,000 will get you fooled by a "professional hunter" ever time. I'm pretty sure they didn't expect 3 fools to cross a glacial river, and hike 2 miles from the landing strip to hunt 'thier' moose.

It might be worth going up there just to call in guides next year.

TFF!! I hope you got a picture of the guide and his client, that would have been priceless to watch them put the sneek on you guys. I wonder what the client was thinking after they saw it wasn't moose that was making the calls but other hunters? Glad you guys got the moose and not the guys using a Super Cub to spot them. I bet they were using radios too.

Graet job. Sad thing is hunting is all about money now. It's going down a really bad road. That pack out pic of the double shovel is sweet. seeing the background is awesome
