Montana Opening Weekend

Every year, I know I’ll be battling a mob of hunters but every year I get so excited that I can’t help myself. I’ve shot enough nice bucks to be happy. Now I take the first antelope I see. They’re the best tasting big game IMO.

holy smoke! That is a pretty buck.

I went out yesterday morning, the unit i have a doe tag in was an absolute zoo. I never saw an antelope on huntable land but im pretty sure i saw every tag holder. I have tomorrow off, so my 7 year old will be doing her remote learning from the truck tomorrow. Then hopefully lots of PE and biology for her if we find some goats.

Filled my 360 tag this morning on a small sliver of public land. This Doe is my first animal ever harvested.

I was driving along a remote forest road in the Madison valley while scouting for antelope and a wolf darted across the road and up into the mountains. Looked like he had a baby or rather small fox in its mouth. Pretty strange..

Best of luck to everyone.

Congrats! You'll have some fantastic meat in the freezer. The last doe I shot was the best game meat I've ever had. Enjoy & well done!

After cooking some tonight, I wonder what the hell people bitch about when eating Antelope. Tastes great to me!

I was going to wait till Thursday but I found out a good friend I’d spent several hours with last week tested positive for Covid. So I figured I should try and get out earlier just in case I came down with it. So Monday I went to some private land I’d gained permission to hunt. Sure glad I did...and I seem to be Covid free :)

Looks like everybody has been having a pretty good season!

I decided to get off the couch and go out today- glassed a while and only saw a coyote. Back to the truck to move, and found a group (aka- spooked with the truck), then got out on foot. Got on them again after a mile, but couldn't make it happen. Only decent shot opportunity had too many cattle behind them. Oh well- back at it Saturday.

The BMA I usually hunt in R7 was pretty much void of antelope on Friday and Saturday, and full of people. So I had to relocate to another spot that was mostly void of people and had antelope, so that was a good thing. Worked my butt off to get one though, weather was absolutely horrible! Nicest buck I've shot to date, but I'm still sour about the 2 does I missed and driving those unfilled tags all the way back home, it's a long ways to get out there....

Hunted R7 earlier this week. Didn't see many antelope, did see a several hunters in the field and driving around. Managed to get a buck. Only saw 3 bucks in 2 days of hunting. Can't figure out why I can't post a pic.
