Curious what hunting/fishing bills the sausage-makers will spin up this year. When I search on the word "hunting" , there's a lot of drafts waiting in the wings, but no text yet to see what they entail. Some of the requestors of some of these drafts do make me wonder. When is the text of these typically available?

Oh boy…I’m not ready for this one yet. I’m sure we are going to see some real dandy’s.

We need a cap on how many one person can have place holders for each session. Last I checked hinkle has 77 place holders across the board.

LC 506, FWP's attempt at addressing thermals, is pretty weak and disappointing.

I think someone on HuntTalk said it costs MT on average $2000 per item introduced. I think they really need to squelch the nonsense bills that don't have a snowball's chance of even leaving committee...we've had like 20 crossbow or spear bills at some point they need to say nope this one isn't even getting our time and we need to do something productive with our time.

How many bills are going to be Ranching for Wildlife in disguise?

I could get more behind a spear bill than a xbow one. As long as we don’t start a spear season

Can you explain? I can’t seem to pull it up on my phone for some reason.

I don't see thermals mentioned at all in this one...it mentions electronic tracking of animals which I assume means cellphone game cameras and puts limits on communicating that information to others for purpose of hunting said animal within 24hrs.

It says “motion tracking device, as defined by commission rule.” Thermals fall under motion tracking devices in the regs.

Basically it would treat motion tracking devices the same as aircraft, so they are legal as long as you don’t use them the day you plan to hunt. It would still be legal to find a bull at night with thermals and then hunt him the next day as long as you don’t use the thermals after midnight.

I have no idea what kind of crap they will come up with this year but I am hearing some pretty nonsensical stuff on topics other than hunting and fishing.

I'm thinking about starting an initiative that instead of the legislature meeting for 90 days every two years, they would be forced to meet for two days every 90 years.

They should be able to handle anything of importance we need and then get the heck out of there.

They’ve got to throw some of the crazy nonsense out there to soften everyone up and make folks feel like there was a compromise when the milder nonsense eventually passes.
