Buzz, congrats on a great ram and a great write up to go with it.

I missed this thread earlier, but glad I caught it. That is a beautiful ram Buzz. Is that a total of three ram tags in the last 5-6 years you have drawn? Very well done and congratulations.

I am optimistic your bicep will heal and be just fine. I tore the same tendon at 28 years old and the surgeon also recommended to pass on surgery. I have had no issues.

I also missed this thread, BUT in my defense I've been out hunting.

Congratulations Buzz on an outstanding sheep. You deserved it and I love to see old Montana boys getting it done. Especially in my back yard.

These sheep are a great success story. They self populated that area by coming over the divide from Rock Creek. They (local Bio's) always feared disease outbreaks because of the proximity to humanity and the dumb things people do.

Roughly at the same time Buzz was scouting for sheep the Ravalli County Sherriff's department was trying to rid a transient out of a canyon just a few miles from where Buzz took his ram. He was shacked up there with his herd of domestic sheep living off the land.

Several years ago while I was bear hunting by the same sheep herd I came across a group of domestic goats feeding where the sheep do. I called MTFW&P's game wardens and they responded abruptly and took them out.

As a side note to this Hunt. Buzz had notified me of what was going on. A organized party of Hook and Bullet groups had already been working on a request to remove (the upper management) at MTFW&P. His story helped propel the request forward and the Governor listened Top dog is stepping down at the end of the Month. There's been a thread on this. I think Buzz's story helped.

I agree, our Bio is a keeper. We've been blessed with some of the best over the years.

Congratulations Buzz on a beautiful ram after finally drawing a tag after 40 years of trying. (Montana needs to make moose, sheep, and goat once in a lifetime draw. No it won't greatly increase a persons odds of trying, but it will stop folks from drawing multiple tags that might have gone to someone who has never drawn before. I've put in 46 years now and no luck.)

You earned your ram and shot a very nice sheep with what was the perfect rifle to do it with. 6mm Remington in a Ruger Model 77 with what sounds like the Nosler 100 gr. solid base boattail that they used to make. I used that bullet for a long time in one of my 6mm Remingtons also. I'd love to see a couple pictures of you with your rifle and the sheep, or just you with the rifle to make the story complete. Again congratulations!

I agree sheep hunting opportunities are so rare while some guys have drawn 2-3 tags in one state, it should be once your successful your done, much like how Idaho does it.

Wyoming is once in a lifetime now too, I fell under the 5 year wait when it was enacted, so I'm done with sheep. The year the law went into effect, drew my 2nd WY bull moose tag, so I'm done with bull moose too.

I also firmly believe in the once in a lifetime for sheep, goat, and moose tags. If you do it right, once is enough.

Congrats Buzz on the Ram, I also appreciated the fact you snuck in closer to make sure everything was perfect, tip of the hat to you. I hope some day to draw one bighorn. Thanks for bringing us along.
