Mobile tagging/reporting

Illinois processor for illinois deer tag?
Nah I was just saying that where I live, it isnt required. Rules vary from state to state but I’m unsure why any processor in any state is not required to at least have a number from a harvest record of some kind. We don’t have tags that go on deer here in Georgia either.

I used the mobile tag option in AZ this year. It was easy and I really can't complain about it, but I felt pretty weird driving back to camp with a deer that didn't have a tag on it. I kept wondering if I had done everything correctly. 50 years of attaching a tag to the deer when successful is a tough habit to change, but there is no chance of a tag blowing off in transit with the eTag and reporting is automatic. It will probably be the way of the future.

I still like like the paper tags FWP has so you can print multiple copies. Ya never know if that big'un is gonna jump up after you just dumped a forky! Or if you want to you want to shoot a deer a week for the six week season you're covered.

MT doesn’t need mandatory reporting. We have low paid telephone operators that call random people for several months after hunting season and ask them if they saw wolves or moose….😏
Took the call a couple days ago about antelope and mountain goat. I was a little discouraged to be asked about the mountain goat, given the requirement to present the skull with horns attached, within 10 days. Seemed redundant. Then the call ends with the promise of another call in a couple months to ask about deer and elk harvest…..

Not every part of our life needs change. I don't have or want a mobile phone.
And this is why you can't go complete mobile tagging.

I work for a company that has its own branded loyalty app. You have to have a phone to use your points. I was surprised when we switched to the new app how many people still had no phone or didn't have smart phones.

I have no doubt at some point it's where everyone will be, but right now it's not possible.

Agreed! It was ingrained in me to always tag the animal before anything else. Hard habit to get away from. E Tagging feels strange.

I have a phone but I hate having to carry it in the field. I guess they call it progress but I think it a pain in the ass. The old system was effective, water proof tag, cut out the date, a little electrical tape to affix it to the antlers and done. Took less time to do than to write this paragraph.

Phones are a pain in the a&$ to carry while hunting! I am worried I will loose it or drop it. Is it charged, do I have a battery back up, is it on silent, which pocket did I put it in…on & on!🙄

And to think it serves no purpose in the actual taking of an animal!

My state offers a phone number to do your harvest check in for those without a smart phone...you have 24hrs to report your harvest..by phone or app...

I don’t ever foresee a day in my lifetime when it is mandatory to use e-tagging.
