Deer #3 this season. First season that she’s ever killed more than one.

Big doe, pics don’t do it justice. She is beside herself she is so excited! She was shaking like a leaf after the shot. 25 minutes before dark.

119yd, Savage 10 in youth stock in 308 Win with 125gr NBT hand loads. This rifle has accounted for four deer so far this season.

It has to be a truly remarkable feeling watching your kid’s excitement and connection with hunting. Huge congratulations to your daughter!

You are correct about that, sir! My son will possibly be old enough to hunt by next season, and I have a few young “apprentices” that I also take hunting, and I find getting others on deer more gratifying than me killing deer.

I got those 6.5 bullets from you so that I can have enough youth rifles going at once to keep my kids and others going on the deer all at the same time. I’m hoping that little Grendel does the trick. My wife actually made the comment earlier in the week “it looks like you need another youth rifle,” and I told her that I wasn’t joking when I had said that before. I have been shuttling this 308 back and forth, and splitting a full size 270 with somewhat reduced loads between my older daughter and another boy, as well. Add in my youngest and it’s going to become a little tough to have enough guns (and me) to go around :D

Sounds like the best possible reason for another rifle!
