McMillan Mountain Tracker LR for Tikka

Man McMillan has gotten really proud of their stuff. The negative comb stocks are really starting to take off

I've never owned a McMillan, but my brother has one of the game wardens. Seems to be pretty good quality. I don't see this being anymore expensive than a Manners.

With all do respect, what’s the point? I bought a Tikka 17 years ago and have done nothing to it and it still shoots lights out.
I read a lot of posts on here about upgrading this and that and it just seems like a way to hemorrhage money.
I love guns, I have a safe full. Just never found a reason to trick them out.
Both my vehicles have over 200,000 miles too and run fine with no upgrades.
Serious question it just doesn’t make sense to me.

I've got a sako in a McMillan. Bought it that way. Wouldn't ever spend the extra money myself, but it's definitely a quality product, you can tell just by handling it.

Same could be said for all of the aftermarket 700 triggers, stocks, etc. Have you seen the recent Ford Bronco and all the add ons? A factory Tikka is a fine rifle, but some don't enjoy the plastic stock or bottom "metal".

No one is forcing you to spend money at all. This post was for those who might be interested in another aftermarket option, which clearly isn't you.

can a few more people chip into this so I can maybe buy one in the future. I’d be in if I could float the money now but have other priorities

[whispers] Pure Precision (formerly Mesa Precision) is The Way.
A primary draw to the mountain tracker LR is that the buttstock does things basically opposite of the pure precision stocks.

The main reason muzzles rise under recoil is that resistance to recoil is not directly behind the bore but rather below it. The drop at heel on the pp stocks is a bad thing in this regard. Also, if there is a rear support on a buttstock with a steep ramp (like the pp stock) it can further contribute to rear dropping in concert with muzzle rise.

That’s fair. I’m just not sure the ability to make a quick follow up shot— which seems to be the primary draw of the whole negative stock thing— is dramatically improved relative to a more traditional but high combed stock.

Different strokes for different folks. I’m just an unabashed Pure Precision fan.

Quick follow up shots arent the only reason. It’s spotting shots, having less recoil movement up into the shooters cheek weld because nobody likes that, and less barrel movement off of POA including while the bullet is traveling down the bore.

True, but you’re not on a waiting list for something that may not happen. I don’t think UM was prepared for the amount of sales they would get, but I bet they figure it out before this other more expensive option even exists.

Why not just go with Unknown Munition’s Rokstock for less $$?

As already posted - numerous issues with the Rokstock. Missed delivery times, poor quality control, etc.

Not to mention, you can’t order one at the moment either. Personally, I don’t care for the aesthetics of the Rokstock, the McMillan is a much better looking stock.
