Has anyone had any success in the McCall zone for archery elk? I have a few places chosen but would like any info I could get. Looking at the last 2 weeks of Sept. to go hunting. Thanks.
Seems I recall on other sites that the wolves are pretty bad down there. I believe that's were quit a few houndsmen have lost dogs to the beasts. Maybe someone from Idaho can help you more.
Plenty of elk have escaped the big bad wolves in that unit. It wouldn't be my first choice for an out of state hunt as that is in the Boise metro's back yard. You'll have plenty of people in there, but like anywhere else, if you're willing to do some legwork, you'll lose most of the human competition.
I would'nt call it boises backyard, theres lots of areas in that zone to hunt where you won't see anyone if you wanna get off the roads, I have hunted it several times and its never been a zoo of people.
Thanks for your input gentlemen. I'm not a "Road Hunter" by any means. Just taking my brother on a hunt together and looking to at least have a chance to see a few elk. Thanks again.
Have any of you hunted unit 23, Sams throne, French Creek area? I am planning an archery hunt for elk there this year.... If so, Please send me a PM... I can hike and get away from the humans... lol
Mainly, pressure and insuring there is a good population. Essentially, I just got the archery tag and plan to hunt unit 23. I plan on using the terrain and distance to get myself away from other hunters.... I am thinking of going Sept 10-20 to hit the rut... Using onxmaps I have been looking at the burn areas by french creek and elk horn creek area. Let me know what you think
