Well for the first time ever here in MN I didn't draw my bear license. Was planning on hunting them for a week starting sept first now I am looking for something to hunt round that time. I am thinking about archery antelope in neb or wy or possible ND. WY and ND some zones can buy deer and antelope lice for same time and possible take a deer in velvet that might be fun but saw tons of lope in Nebraska and lots of public land.
I am open to any suggestions tho so feel free to sugest anything.

Thanks guys.
Mike

Kansas whitetails in Unit 17. Muzzleloader and archery season starts September 20th.

I have seriously been considering an early season muzzleloader hunt there for several years but i guess i have never really dug deep enough into it. How is that unit for public land or ease of access to private land. I am guessing mostly prarie land so lots of spot and stalk type hunting i am hoping that is what I love to do vs sitting in a blind over water all day. Any advice you could give on the area is greatly appreciated. I think when I looked into it before we didn't need to draw a tag but not sure is that correct?

Thanks again

Would be hard to have more fun than an archery antelope hunt in WY or the western Dakotas......at least within the bounds of legality and morality.

Tend to agree then if i got a deer tag and possible able to shoot a deer in velvet starting to sound like lil slice of heaven

I have to admit that I have only scored on one whitetail during muzzleloader season. This guy. He came out of a circle of irrigated corn that a farmer friend was cutting.

My problem is that I am usual really busy, plus my ranch is prairie, but there is a lot of irrigated corn any direction from me. During the early season there will be some corn being harvested as high moisture corn going to the feedyards, but much will not be harvested yet and those big bucks love it in there. Here is my place.

I have always shot a percussion cap rifle with open sights. I like hunting that way and have been slow to warm up to a scoped inline, but this may be the year I try something new. My sons and I have purchased a wooded deer haven and with that have a few guided hunts sold to help make payments on this new land that sure won't pay for itself by ag production.

I don't have any suggested areas per se, but anyone interested in hunting deer in Kansas this year have the opportunity at 12:01AM on June 15th to buy left over tags online, first come first serve.

LEFTOVER NONRESIDENT DEER PERMITS AVAILABLE JUNE 15

More than 4,000 leftover permits available to nonresidents

PRATT — The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) has announced that 4,016 nonresident deer permits are still available for the 2010 season. These are permits that were not taken in the April nonresident application period. They are Whitetail Either-Sex permits (hunter designates equipment/season choice, as well as one adjacent unit, at time of purchase) and will be sold, first come, first served, to any nonresident who does not possess a 2010 permit. Leftover permits go on sale June 15 at 12:01 a.m., online at the KDWP website (www.kdwp.state.ks.us). Those who don’t have access to a computer may call the Licensing Section at 620-672-0728, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The following deer management units have leftover Nonresident Whitetail Either-Sex Deer permits: Unit 6 — 257; Unit 7 — 40; Unit 8 — 333; Unit 9 — 313; Unit 10 — 747; Unit 11 — 632; Unit 12 — 381; Unit 13 — 384; Unit 14 — 558; Unit 15 — 132; Unit 16 — 183; and Unit 18 — 56.

Hunters who purchase a leftover permit will lose any preference points they may have accumulated. Applicants who were successful in the nonresident drawing may not purchase a leftover permit. In addition to a nonresident deer permit, hunters are also required to purchase a nonresident hunting license.
