At this time of year I hunt red stags. They are normally up very high where the feed is and cooler temperatures. I guess its like mule deer hunting in the northern summer. This year i hunted South Marlborough and had a great time camping on the tops (about 1800-1900 meters) in search of a decent 12 pointer. I saw 19 deer and 14 chamois over 4 days but didn't pull the trigger. Its fantastic country and here are some iphone photos, i probably should buy a decent camera but find it hard to justify the weight or cost!
The hunting block and the valleys i glassed:
A family group of chamois.
The biggest stag i saw, just a promising 6 pointer.
