Like someone flipped a switch...

Thanks all, he was quartering away right @ 45 degrees @ just over 100 yards coming out of thick mesquite headed for more thick stuff. As with the tenet, catching ruins fishing, a buck moving away looks bigger, taller, wider. A rushed on the hoof count was 6 on his right & 5 left. The extra G on the right costing tine length on that side so he was taller on the 5 side. A decent buck but he fooled me a little...not much. He hesitated...

On the shot he bolted...thought I'd shot over him. Gave it a few minutes, cleared the chamber, and headed to check for blood...none. Walked toward the direction he ran and saw his white belly about 40 yards away. He had a larger than average body sheathed with enough fat to sustain the beginning rut.

My son and his lovely wife were on the grounds to help wrestle the chore, thankfully. They saw a much larger buck this fine day and are pumped. My deer season is done and yes, I'm a little envious.

Hogs next...
