Leaving in the AM to NM

I'll be traveling to NM for my desert mule deer hunt which starts on Saturday. Hope to come back with a good story and some pics. Good luck to anyone else who will be hunting this week.

I'll be walking out the door & heading up the hill in the morning. Glad we got some rain,it has been crunchy dry. Freezing fog this morning,could be a problem seeing tomorrow. Now if I can see a buck.

Midseason progress report:

Opening day: eventful day with plenty of deer glassed up but unfortunately no bucks. I also glassed up some Barbary sheep.
Day 2: uneventful. Warm temps, very little movement.
Day 3: came into town to resupply.

Will be headed back up there tonight to finish off the season which ends Wednesday. There is a cold front coming in tonight, hopefully that'll get the deer moving around n the morning.

End of season report:

Day 4: cold front came through. Glassed up a herd of Barbary sheep at sunrise. Moved over to a different canyon and glassed up a herd of deer but no bucks.
Day 5: Last day of the hunt. Glassed up same herd of Barbary sheep. Moved to different canyons until finding a large herd of deer. Watched them for a while but again, no bucks in it. Some antelope were also spotted at the end of the day

As always, it was good being out in the field chasing deer. Already thinking about next year.
