kitty cat

cjcj, these were all taken with the help of hounds. I once called a lion in with a Sceery predator call in the Spring, accidentally, while trying to get a bear to come in. Also called in a lion in the fall with a Primos elk hyper-hot call. That 2nd one came in real close, I didn't see it until I quit calling, stood up (I was laying in some grass) and then noticed the cat sprinting away from me.. 20 yards out...kind of creepy. Both were small cats though.

Well Kurt, it is true, but very hard to believe. If I didn't know the people personally I would NEVER believe it either. In the last 25 years I have associated with hundreds of houndsmen and heard about thousands of cats killed, many weighed. The guy that I know that saw this cat on a certified scale was one of the most successful hard hunting cat hunters that walked the earth. He logged in the summer and cat hunted all winter, mostly bobcats for fur, but ran lions when he got the chance. He hunted cats from end of Nov-mid march, 5-7 days a week. Hunted with him, he had the two best cat dogs I've ever seen or heard of.

Anyhow, I can probably talk till I am blue in the face and you wont believe me! Same would be true if you told me of a 226er.

I have seen the Montana stats before and was very surprised at the weight listed there for cats. In Washington I have seen two cats on the scale that were over 180 and have had 3 or 4 friends with cats that weighed over 180, not to mention the 4 I knew of that went over 200 (200 for 2 of them 202 for one and 226 for the other).

Anyhow...

I personaly have seen

Several Lions in 180-190's and 3 over 200 .
But I still call bs on most unless I see them only a couple guys that I trust .

Thats a beauty cat. I sure want one. Big congrats to you Kurt. Is your friend an outfitter/guide or does he go just for fun? Congrats again.

That's a nice looking tom cat. Congratulations! I started hunting lions behind dogs back in 1988 with buddies, went to the tree with a super nice tom lion and wrote a story about it. Well, there have been lots of lions and stories since but few more special than the first. I ran down a super tom lion with my son and a buddy early this winter. We had spent some of last spring and this fall trying to get a fresh run on that tom lion, and then it finally happened, an overnight track in seven day old snow. He was as good a big tom lion as I've ever had my hands (or a tape) on and green scored just over 15 inches Boone & Crockett.

I wrote a "then and now" story four or five years ago about lion hunting and the people that particiapte in the sport. It was published in a Big Game magazine and should have been directed at the people in the sport, so I sent it to Full cry and they have printed it in there February 2005 issue. The story was "Scratchin for Lions." Take a loook at it if you get the chance.

Keep'em treed!

Ike, you've got some dandy pics on your site, you should post the link here for folks to check out. I sure wish I was carrying a camera over the last 25 years of chasing dogs chasing bears and kitties. I have only recently gotten into photography and I haven't been going with the hounds much (my dad runs em, I just go with him!).

Ike... Jsut went out and spent a Fe mins at your site.... NICE !!!! I'll catch up more later, thanx for the link !!!!

He Has Been Out On Bear, Bobcat And Coyote. Haven't Had The Opportunity Yet To Get Him Out On Lion. He And Our Walker Are Treeing Fools And Work Very Well Together.
