Hey guys my group drew our first rifle KS tags..north central area. Will be hunting public, what’s your alls strategy? Sit winter wheat fields? Hunt thick stuff where the bucks will bed resting from the rut?? Thanks!

In general, the farther away from population centers the better for public lands. Isolated winter wheat is better than areas that are all wheat, with cut corn being great sometimes. Don't overlook folds in terrain in a cut milo field as bedding areas.

We have been super dry the second half of this year. Water considerations could be the ticket.

Is there ever any rutting activity the first couple days of rifle in your experience??

If it has cover for birds your going to have company, but if its in wheat due to rotation you just might be able to have a deer hunt without getting run over.

TN Vol, how did it go, what did you learn? I drew my first ever KS deer tag for this fall. I'll have access to 80 acres, with about 10 acres that have trees/cover; not sure what to expect. I walked it this past spring but it didnt scream deer to me, there were some trails though

I learned the first couple days of scouting and hunting were insane with people everywhere..bird and deer hunters but after the 2-3 days it was nice. We all tagged out after everything calmed down
