Jungle Blanket or Down Blanket for Warm Scouting Trips

The only sleeping bag I have that is packable, and not some giant coleman bag, is a 15F bag. When I go on scouting trips in the summer I get pretty hot despite leaving the bag unzipped. I'm thinking about using one of the Snugpak Jungle Blankets in lieu of my bag. Has anyone used one of these before? Do you think it would be adequate for summer trips (early August) in Utah? I'm looking for a cheap cooler alternative to my bag, so I'm open to other suggestions as well.

The jungle blanket appears to be similar to a Woobie (poncho liner) that all Servicemembers treasure. Looks to be the difference of about a pound of weight, with the down be lighter but also a little smaller. Personally I am a synthetic proponent due to the retained insulation if wet. At the time of year you are talking about I would think that should be plenty if you have some layers in reserve in case of an extra chilly snap.

Definitely go with the Woobie they're the best. Amazon has them look up "military poncho liner" they're about $40 apiece.

Just ordered a Jungle Blanket last night for the same purpose. My 10-degree quilt was wayyy too warm for early archery. Did you ever buy one and did you like it?

I bought it and love that thing! I got the XL version, and use it all the time on any trip above 40-45F. It's pretty much my go to on scouting trips in the summer.

That’s great to hear! I should’ve went with the XL but I’m going to start with the regular and probably pick up the XL prior to next fall.

Incredibly.versatile piece of kit. Would be great for a light sleeping throw.

I’ll probably end up picking up a woobie from Zero Foxtrot eventually, but they didn’t have a listed weight on their website and didn’t respond to my email, and comments on different YouTube videos and Amazon reviews during my research showed a majority of people thinking that the Jungle Blanket was a better, lighter option than the Woobie.

A puffy blanket is handy in general, but I would not sleep well with mine backpacking. REI's used site has a ton of moderate quality sleeping bags, lightly used, most professionally cleaned, for $50-$125.

Used the Jungle Blanket XL in a Borah Bivy for 4 nights last week and it was excellent. Didn’t get below 50-degrees so I hardly needed it.. but it was comfy those couple hours before dawn. Tested it down into the upper 30’s last winter and it would get the job done if you kept your hunting clothes on. At 2lbs and fairly compressible, it was a good pick-up IMO. I was actually surprised that as a blanket, it stayed on my body/feet pretty well, I figured it would slide off a bunch but it didn’t. I have my full sleep system including tarp down to 6.5lbs for the early season.

Add me to another that is all about that #WoobieLyfe. Have been known to take mine into the deer stand when temps are in the low teens.
