Just received word that my current job is being moved to Las Vegas. I'm so excited I could puke. Too bad work is a necessary evil.

So someone tell me something good about Vegas. Pine forested mountains with elk and deer. Cold mountain streams with hungry trout. Good schools. Low crime. Its got it all!

What's your experience with Vegas?

If any of you see any job openings in ID, MT, WY let me know. My expertise is commodity trading for electric utilities. I know job demand in that field is low so I may consider a complete career change.

Sorry to hear that T Bone, but look at it this way if you are ever having a really lucky day, just think what you could parlay that into?? ;)

Best of luck.

Chalis might have an Opening ... Ask Jen about there ;)

Good luck bud !!

PS, Whats different about Vegas then Reno ?

My experiences with Vegas so far have been.
1st visit: Decide on a whim to get married.
2nd visit: Decide on a whim to buy a condo I can't afford.
3rd visit: Actually came out ahead gambling (enough to buy dinner for two).
4th visit: There should be a law about not bringing kids to Vegas (I did). Don't even ask me how I did gambling.

To sum it up, one of those places to get out of quick and hope you have two nickles to rub together and your sanity intact when you do.

Rough deal T. I think you might have the right idea looking elsewhere.

I guess the worst part will be the bird hunting. I don't think they have the chukar you do up north. A lot of quail, but seems you're a chukar hunter at heart. I know all about moving, the AF moved me out of Idaho this past July  . Just need to make to most of it and press on. Good luck.

There's some awful good fishing and sight seeing (bikini type) to be had at both Lake Mead and Lake Powell. You aren't too far from some great desert sheep hunting if you can draw a tag. Get in with the right guys and you could hunt BIG mountain lions every year. Last but not least, there's a nice big airport in Las Vegas than will let you fly away every chance you get.

I`m heading to Vegas this weekend for a motorcycle show/convention...when it comes to hunting ..well its a wasteland [pretty much] Mt. charleston used to be nice [trashed now] some good fishing at mead and on the colorado..otherwise its a party..wouldn`t want to live there.

It's a nice place to visit, but I don't think I would want to live there...
Hot, dry, hot, dry, and hot... and the naked women keep it even hotter!!!
Good luck...Sorry to hear the news....

JohnSWA, when I first saw your post I thought it said -- you could always become a booty hunter. I need my wife to come home, I am starting to go loony...

Moosie,

Lots of differences between Reno and Vegas. Climate: Reno is comparable to Boise. Vegas is comparable to Death Valley.

Population: Reno 150k, Vegas 900 bajillion

Elevation: Reno 4500 above sea level, Vegas, who cares.

Seasons: Reno 4. Vegas 1 (Hot)

Hunting: Northern Nevada. Trophy quality elk, deer, lope, sheep, lion. Upland game out of the kazoo. Lots of small furry moving targets. Vegas: lizards. 1 ribby jackrabbit.

Fishing: Northern Nevada. Trout fishing in high mountain streams and resivoirs. Vegas. Fish in Lake Mead for bass or carp. Turds and corpses are often foul hooked on accident.

Good luck and I'm sorry! I can feel you a bit though, as my wife is doing her damndest to drag my back to the Midwest. I've grown to like the Mtns way too much. It hurts to give up a dream...

Thanks for the help folks. Unless something real attractive pops up in the very near future we will be Vegas bound in April. We'll try to do it with a positive attitude and make the best of it. Sometime in the next 2 years some jobs in my field will open up in Boise, Spokane, or Butte.

If that doesn't work then I'll make some career changes so we can move back to small town Idaho.
