Japanese Yew and Elk

Elk are having a tough go in my vicinity.
Snow covered everything. Cold temps not helping. Watched a small herd cross the road and stand by cattle eating their morning breakfast put out out by rancher.

Only hope i have for the 25 ish inches i have in billings is that its fairly low density snow in terms of MC (because of it falling during bitterly cold weather) and should melt quick.

Wildlife took a pounding.

We have had on and off snow. So there are more dense layers. If there is a chinook in March it's going to be trouble.
Feeling for the animals right now.

We have a lot of snow on the ground, even in the valley. Supposed to warm up and rain this weekend. Could be a big mess.

Killing elk in Magic Valley for years. Not a fan.

The fire that destroyed my house in 2020 burned about eight miles of what they call the Bear Creek Greenway. A twenty-seven mile stretch of land along Bear Creek preserved as green space.

Someone decided that they need to do some rehabilitating of the land and plant native plants to replace invasive species. Heaven forbid let nature do its magic.
They even put up a nice sign too tell everyone about it.

What they are actually doing is planting exotic trees, not native, way to close together and that apparently are not accustomed to the dry summer heat.

They had to bulldoze out the native Cotton Woods, Willows and Alders that had already grown back and were between 15 and 20 feet tall, in order to make room for these exotics.

Was up highish on my side of beartooths this morning. Everything looking ok but this warmup is coming at perfect time. Another week of this would of been bad, never got much for crust here due to how cold has been so hopefully come out of this ok.
