2nd annual pilgrimage up to Jackson for the shed opener. Lined up around 5:45am, but there were Trucks / Horse Trailers by Noon yesterday. Probably about 500+ people.

Put in 10.5miles, 3k+ elevation over 6hrs, got further back in than I did last year but ended up getting skunked. Ran into 10+ people, nobody was having any luck.

I did see a truck full of guys with 40+ sheds but that’s about it. Ran into mule deer, grouse, and a sheep which was a rare treat.

Do any of the other feed grounds in the area get hit for shed season? I know the refuge gets pounded, but down by Horse Creek and Dell Creek may be a little less packed? Or up in the Gros Ventre? I found my biggest shed to date (best out of about half a dozen...) in the Gros Ventre. Could be worth checking out if you're still in the area!

They all have lots of traffic yes, some worse than others though. I avoid the whole 5/1 show personally, too many people.

My brother and I went too. We got in line Friday night at 10 pm and were vehicle #255. We hiked the national forest adjacent to the refuge for the first 3 hours of the opener, then headed elsewhere. Most of the people we encountered who were successful had low numbers in the entry line to get into the refuge. It’s hard to compete when the people in the front have a 30 minute head start. This was my 3rd and likely last time attempting the refuge opener. It’s always been nuts, but this year was on another level.
