Looking for a pack from one of the "top-tier" companies but don't have the cash to buy one retail as my first child is due in February. Anything that'll pack down small enough for a day pack & haul meat.

I would be willing to give you a MR Cabinet (formerly the CrewCab) bag. It is in great shape and would probably work well for you. You would still need the frame but that should be doable.
