Gastro Gnome - Eat Better Wherever

Is it just me or are Schnees boots getting worse?

I’ve been wearing some Beartooth 2’s that are nearing the end of their lives. Pretty significant interior wear in the heel cup. Each boot started to leak from I'm assuming some eyelets a couple years ago, so definitely not waterproof.
Not sure if I’ll go with them again for my next pair. They’re fair boots, but I might shop around for something different.

I just put my first season in on a pair of uninsulated Timberlines.
I’m very happy with them so far.
For those of you having issues with them being waterproof, I’m curious to know the circumstances involved.
I don’t baby them, but I’m also not walking in water up to the tops of them, as I’m sure no one is either.

Mine would leak walking through a field of wet grass. Not doing big creek crossings.

It seems like the waterproofness got better for me over time. My boots are now four years old or so and I can walk through a creek and the water just rolls off. Choudhary do that when I first got them. I think it takes time for the wax to really work into the seams and stitches.

I use Schnee’s boot dressing probably 3 times a year. Full clean, put on the dressing, leave overnight then buff out. Not sure I guess I’ve just had bad luck. I do the same with my beartooths and they are bombproof (at least this pair)

Obenaufs for me. Has kept my boots in great shape. Highly recommend the Beartooth or Granite with Obenauf's route.

Wow! That is not good.
I’m sorry to hear that.
I have not experienced that. I’ve walked through some pretty wet spots and in some very quick steps into standing water, and not had any issues.
I just received the new 2024 Timberlines, not sure if this is the difference?

I have a set of the V2's on the way I'm excited to give them a shot. In terms of hiking and fitting my feet nothing comes close to a Timberline with a sheepfeet insole for me. Beartooths are pretty good, but Timberlines are great in terms of comfort. Hoping for the best. Will provide further feedback when they come in and I start walking my trapline in them.

I do hope your experience with them is a good one!
Best wishes
