Well, I know some of you hate anything to do with "boring treestand hunting" , but this season has been anything but that. I can't explain why, but I have had more deer in my area than any year that I have hunted it in the past 8 years. I let 4 bucks walk by this last week that were bigger than I have ever passed on, just not bigger than my personal best. (which still isn't a giant) I am not talking huge deer, like you see on TV about Iowa, just good 8-10 point , likely 3.5 year olds. The most exciting part was watching them posture up at the sight of my decoy, and come right in. Sunday afternoon I couldn't take it anymore. This buck came in just perfect and gave me a quartering away, wide open, 24 yard shot. 10 ringed him. Hole in pic is exit hole, entry is approx. 3 inches higher and farther back. He ran 50 yards up hill, and crashed 20 of it back down, dead in less than 10 seconds. By far my most exciting season. The rut was just nutty good!! It's kinda sad to be done with 3 weeks of season remaining, but it was 18 degrees here with windchill of 1 degree this morning. If I hadn't filled I would have been out there freezing my arse off! Will try to include a few pics that I took with my cell phone of some of the other bucks. Two of them rammed my decoy and broke it apart. One amazing fall !

more pics with crappy cell phone. Can see decoy in top photo and pieces of decoy after collision in bottom photo. The bottom buck had mud on his antlers after pile driving the decoy into the ground. Sorry pics are so big. Feel free to resize anyone.

I got one of the attacks, the most violent one, on video on my phone. BUT, for the life of me I can't get it to send to anyone. It says the file is too large or something like that. I did get it transferred from phone to computer, and saved on my computer, but I can't send it out on an email as an attachment. I'm not too smooth on computer techy stuff.
load it up to youtube if its a large file. There is a 'youtube capture' app for the phone that makes it super easy.
nice buck too. I've had a fall or two like the one you had this year, where it seems you are just covered in nice bucks. Guess you had a hot doe or three in your neck of the woods!

Jeff, let me know if you figure it out and I will do the same. The buck that totally blew the decoy apart was also rattled in. He came running in from downwind and threw the brakes on when he saw the decoy. then he decided to kick it's azz. The wife shortened a video one time and got it to send, so I may have to admit defeat and let her try
I have heard quite a few complaints about how bad the deer hunting is in MN. I am only about 45 miles from MN, but I realize it is a big state. I think the biggest problem with MN is that they allow gun hunting during the rut. It's great for the hunters, but not for the deer populations in my opinion, and then hurts the hunters in the end... did that make sense? Maybe the sportsmen need to encourage the DNR to make some changes?
