Me and a buddy of mine that guides in Oklahoma on a small ranch are making plans to go to a bowhunting only consession in South Africa in July of 2012!!! I am so damned excited!! This will be the most awesome late birthday present for myself for my 40th birthday.

it's a Plains game package deal....impala, warthog, and blesbok....those are the ones included in the package I'm doing...other animals can be added for seperate trophy fees. I would really love a Kudu

Good for you John!
Met a guy this year that went and took 5 or 6 species. His hunting arrows weighed 1000 grains. He showed me the arrows and the special broadheads....WOW!

Don't forget to budget getting all those critters shipped back and Taxi'd(if you see fit).

Also note, that same guy is a taxidermist in SW CO(Dolores)

That package sounds like one an outfitter offers that i've been looking at.he gave me a pretty good price for just kudu and gemsbok. Now I just have to talk myself into getting on an airplane for 14 hrs.Good luck when you go.Can't wait to see the pics

Rock On John! sounds like fun exept for all the shots I heard the Doc has to give you before you go.

John,

That is awesome! I started an Africa hunting fund about two years ago and have money put in there monthly. I would love to go int he next five years. Keep good notes and take lots of pics. I will pester you with questions when you get backl

John, you will have a great adventure. What outfitter did you book with? We are heading to RSA May 2, 2011, Huntersgame Safaris, for our 2nd trip for plains game. Be careful, as the 1st trip is merely a warm up for your 2nd and successive trips. For anyone that has a deseire to hunt south africa I whole heartedly recommend Huntersgame Safaris out of Barkley West in the north cape province. The PH is Nihan Engelbrecht. His packages and accomodations are great and as good as any that we have looked at. He will work with you on any game that you desire to hunt. Again John, have a great hunt and take lots of pictures. MTG

Dang it, John!!! Good for you. I'm looking at the same kind of trip in 2012 but haven't come to a conclusion yet. Can anyone tell me if you need to "sew up" these trips a year ahead of departure or can you ponder it later? Thanks.

Cool ! I think we will be there about the same time possible June 2012. Different outfitter though. I'm going after Gemsbuck, Kudu, Blesbuck, Spring buck and Impala.
Good luck to you!!

Cool. I went on a bowhunting trip in 2008. Shoot heavy arrows and COC broadheads.

We're going with dare to bowhunt in South Africa. We're also doing a day of fishing while we're there since it's 6 1/2 days and 7 nights and only an extra $70. I'm going to get euro mounts done on everything and get the hides tanned to put on the wall...doing it with their taxidermist it looks like since they have good rates. They say dinners will be from animals we killed....anyone here tried any African game meat before?

Don't do it... it will cost you more than you think, and you'll plan your return the day you leave.

A 1000gr arrow for animals the size of pronghorns? What ever set up you use for deer/elk will work for any plains game.

I went eruo and a couple mounts on my second trip. It was cheap, and they look great. They 'taxi' work needed for a euro is the same price as 'dip and pack'... shipping is the same.

I've eaten a bunch of diffrent animals. Eland is awesome.... the rest tastes like deer or elk to me except for elephant... it tasted like swamp grass. The warthogs were ok, a little gamey and tough.

Spend more time if you can. I'd go back to hunt rabbits and birds for two weeks if thats all I could afford. :)
