If you thought prop 127 was bad….

They can't define every hunt-able species as a keystone species. Even their desire to do so won't stand up. That said, all predators will be on the keystone list they make.....and yes, prairie dogs will be too. They have been identified for decades, if not longer, as a keystone grassland species. I'm not trying to start a fight but the concept of keystone species is pretty solid, if not contrary to how wildlife is managed in the North American Model. I can't see how deer could ever be classified as a keystone species. If you removed all of them from the environment they inhabit there would be little change....
I don’t think you fully comprehend who we are dealing with in Colorado. These are the same folks who at every commission meeting proclaim hunters to be reckless, bloodthirsty sport killers and assert the majority of trappers intentionally violate wildlife regulations to increase animal suffering. They told us the science overwhelmingly concludes that regulated mountain lion hunting threatens the long term viability of the population. They will not act in good faith and will do however they like. This newly established commission will have rule making and enforcement authority with virtually no public input and no accountability to Colorado constituents. Completely undemocratic by design. If they can make a case that CPW has been defunded or altered, then they can take on all CPW rule making authority. That is when they go after deer or whatever species they haven’t already classified as “keystone” species and eliminated harvest. I am not saying the concept of keystone species isn’t valid or useful in wildlife science. I am not knowledgeable enough in the field to even weigh in. But I can tell you with 100% certainty, in this case, it will be weaponized to usher in the end of hunting and trapping in Colorado.

We start at the title board picking apart the language. Then we try to establish a decline to sign campaign then if it gets ratified and on the ballot we fight like hell. We lean into the scientists and the real facts and the real data. Everything they lack.

But we need $$$$$$$$ it never ends and it sucks continually asking for $$$ but that’s what they have. Their followers give every month to lies and plead with emails saying wolves will go extinct or stop trophy hunters.

Everyone needs to be rallying around this issue alone in CO (hopefully we don’t see this pop up elsewhere) again this is the reason like stop the wolf reintroduction or any other “ right to hunt and fish” ballot measure is wishful thinking and downright foolish if you ask me. Until polis is out at the very least we must play defense and hold the line.
Hunters should take a cue on the tenacity and creativity of the opposition. People are announcing for a run already. Start having conversations now. At this point, increasing name recognition is important. Get them on the record regarding their views on this stuff. Don't wait until December 2026.

This is absolutely worth repeating. The next Governor will have a major effect on the future of hunting in Colorado. The other name getting tossed around is Senator Michael Bennet, though he hasn’t officially declared.

Bennet is a piece of shit too. The tofu eating sheep will vote him in and bitch about the roads while they deny they’re handing out tax dollars to illegals. Same song and dance. Hunting is in deep trouble here. There’s people on here that are helping it disappear with their votes.

Jena Griswold is such a troll, just awful on camera, she's had a lot of unfavorable press too, I'd be surprised if she could survive a campaign that goes into the muck.

Politics is a dirty business, and often the worst within the party rather than between the two majors. My view is either organize early and be proactive or keep doing the same thing and losing.

Salazar is plenty palatable. A man of the boomers though.

Jena is DOA.

Weiser is just a Polis lackey. Way too publicly awkward.

Now Mr Neguse, that’s what this liberal Gen Z/millenial state will probably want, unfortunately. Will basically just be more of Polis. Probably less restrained, if you could imagine.

I think this is smart strategy. Get candidates from both parties on the record regarding policy positions related to your interest group (hunting, fishing, wildlife). Progressive orgs use this to great effect. Usually in the form of a candidate survey and interpreted sometimes as an ideological purity test. Candidates want to avoid flip-flopping on issues as it can bite them in close races or future campaigns. These surveys enable said groups to create a “voter’s guide” that they can distribute to their members and like-minded individuals. Something to think about as Colorado sportsmen look to be more pro-active in the future.
