Last few years have ventured to Montana for spring bear hunt. Always over memorial weekend and have mixed results. Weather is pretty warm, bears are cruising and not eating, everywhere is green.

I know that elevation plays a role in “green up”, snowpack, etc. I’m leaning towards May 10-17, May 15-May 22. Anyone have input on a 7 day window?
I have my favorite windows for whitetail (Oct 31-Nov 6) elk (Sept 14-21), need to figure out spring bear.

Thanks

I think you’re in the right date range with either option. Just make sure where you’re hunting has options at lower and high elevation to offset the snowpack for that year. Last three killed have been May 10, 14 and 20 over the last few years for us. Personally I think you’ll get a little more action on the later date range, but they’ll still be moving around prior to that.
