With a big move in the future to a less desirable city, I was curious about what everyone's answer to this one would be. If there was one city, small town, or even county that you all could live in, where would it be and why? I like Lewistown a lot, but was born and raised in Bozeman and will say that it is hard to beat the area. Hunting, fishing, you name it, they got it!

Born and raised in SW MT, in a small town, I hunted everything that moved and and fish the Madison River 2-3x a week... It pales in comparison to what I have here, others may disagree about the opportunity in MT, but for me hunting sheep, moose, caribou, bears, catching truckloads of big fish, endless exploring opportunities that see little to no people each year or even evidence of people, winter sports, endless public lands including endless public fishing opportunities, etc etc.

I don't think I could move back to the L48 unless I had no other options.

I visited Alaska for the first time last summer for about three weeks and it was incredible! If they had better elk hunting opportunities then it would be a strong consideration for sure.

Now you shut up, we're sending them all to Colorado.

Yep, Southern Colorado. Great climate and all the recreation one could want, as well as melons. There is a reason Colorado is growing so fast, primarily resident OTC tags. Anyone thinking about moving to a Western state should just head for Pueblo or Colorado Springs and start looking for a house. Jobs are easy to find just like the elk. The women are beautiful as well. It's a no brainier.

I agree with Bambi, Alaska has everywhere else beat by a wide margin.

In the lower 48 you have to find places that are no so nice that tourism has killed the recreational opportunities, but still nice enough to be out of the ordinary. That's not often found in the lower 48 unless you really get off the beaten path and even then you are probably still dealing with some people.

Right now if I wanted to go enjoy a weekend camping on national forest or grassland without seeing people I would consider leaving Wyoming. Wyoming is crawling with tourist and folks from Colorado just about everywhere right now with so much going on.

Why don't more people live there? I've always wondered.

In another life without a wife and family I would have been there or Canada

I'm calling BS!! I live in SE Colorado and the women are fat and ugly, if you can find ones with all their teeth that aren't doing meth. We're overrun with illegal Mexicans. The crime rate is climbing. My town has had a cop stabbed in the neck in a low income housing complex. The only thing we really have going for us is melons and onions. Our weather sucks too...we're so far into a drought that the antelope are suffering.

Born and raised in Montana and I'm 64 now. The only place that could beat Montana would be Alaska. The opportunities for residents are awesome. Anywhere south of Wyoming is out of the question. In the lower 48 Wyoming would be my other choice, if Montana didn't exist lol.

Hmmmmm. Maybe move to Idaho Cush. I just spent a week in Coeur d' Alene. Didn't see any ugly women. Well, not many. What I do need to find is the best burger in that town as I will be going back. Might have to start another thread. Oh, and me, I'll never leave Montana Brother. mtmuley

The main reasons i always hear. Winter is too dark, its too cold, too isolated, no women, hunting opportunities are not as good as I have here, because I can go after work/school/etc, and lastly, nothing to do (seriously).

There are lots of people that do move here, and move away after 4-5 years. Or especially if they start a family. Its tough to be all by yourself in a place so far away, and the cost to get "home" is quite high. I know very, very few people who were born here, and would bet that half the people I've met since I moved here almost 10 years ago have move away.

I personally do not know why more people don't move here. We've had a net loss of population the last couple years due to the economy.

If we had better elk hunting? Thats a new one for the list. While I do miss hunting them in the rut, I really think the trade off for sheep, griz moose and caribou, in country that I will not see another person, or have to worry if the animals are on private or public, more than makes up for it. haha.

E OR, E ID, anywhere in WY within 1 hr of some alpine. I'm a sucker for the high desert. But dang to I enjoy going to the beach a few times a year. Maybe E WA ain't too bad...

Mule deer are one critter I couldn't leave behind. It would be amazing to hunt Alaska. I do love mule deer even when I don't kill one. mtmuley
