Idaho Tex Creek Elk zone

Units 66 and 69. Never hunted nor worked but the F&G reports currently too many elk.

Had planned on hunting a Salmon B tag again however.

The Tex Creek A tag is the September archery then a 10 day cow season.

Or the B tag with the 7 day bull season.

Would enjoy a pm or two with any general thoughts.

I recently moved near unit 66 and while I haven't hunted it, everybody I knew who hunted there last year killed elk. Granted, most of these people having been hunting there for many years, but seems to be plenty of elk in the area. It sounds like the area gets a lot of people, but not many people get off the main road. I really can't be of much help other than that. Maybe @BillChristy will chime in...

It is one of three elk tags we have had that didn't get filled. The other two were an OTC CO archery tag and a Kentucky cow elk tag. The hunt very much was similar to the OTC CO archery hunts we have been on (total of 2). There will be camps every mile on the forest roads. There are also a lot of roads making it hard to "get off the main road" because you will just run into the next main road.

Also - people ignore the motorized rule and it gets very frustrating as you try to follow it yourself
