Somehow I got lucky as a non-resident and drew a tag in this unit. Next year I will be a resident so my odds will go up a little. Maybe Ill draw again! We chatted with a few people on the net and did a couple scouting trips to learn the area. This was super important as one of the main areas I wanted to hunt was inaccessible without some sort of ATV. I was glad to figure this out preseason without actually wasting a day of hunting to realize it.
We found and were on elk every day. It has been a while since I got serious about hunting them. I was amazed at the amount of bugling and chasing cows still going on in the middle of Oct. So cool to see!
This bull had 17 cows and we must have herd him bugle a hundred times. He was keep two other bulls off his ladys.
It was a full moon and that kept these elk up late in the morning and they were back up early in the day. I shot him at 2:30. Following his cows over a saddle. If he wasn't so vocal he may have slipped away unseen. He was full of mud and has 3 broke points from all the fighting he has done!!
What a great season!

Nice! We archery hunted that area last year and we were into elk and good bulls the entire time, just couldn't put it together. I can only imagine what hunting there with a rifle would be like!
