Nice 36.5” pike This morning. Kept a 29.5” male today. Was really good action this morning but slowed up this afternoon. Have to bring my extension next time I almost didn’t get through today

We did a blind taste test years back in Canada. Pike, walleye, and smallmouth. The pike won and it wasn’t close. I’d have never guessed it. I don’t love fishing for them and spend plenty of time cussing them while tying new jigs on, but I’ll gladly eat them.

With ice fishing almost over for the year , there is one spot at the base of a big shady bluff where the ice just will not give up. Yesterday may have been the last day, but it was a good one!

Ice around here was dicey at best, game fish is closed and we just got pounded with snow. We are done for the year.

Are you catching those pigs jigging or on tipups? Your pics are often in the shack, not sure. Just curious, slamming fish that size would be a blast either way.

On tipups. I bring the tools out with me everytine I get a flag unhook the fish in the hole then quickly run to the shack for a picture and measurements. That’s the only way I can get nice pictures when I’m solo. I drill a hole next to the shack to release them from to minimize time out of water

I’ve found that pike often have distinct enough patterns that you can ID them from their spots. I learned one sleepless night that I’ve caught multiple pike at least twice.

Of course this is only really possible afterward with photos of the same side. I’m sure some AI could speed that process up and compare a lot more photos.

Yesterday was last day of fishing season. I had big plans hit walleye in the morning and go to a new spot for pike where I fish whitefish. Everytine I was white fish fishing I would see 5-10 pike through a 10” hole so I figured lots around. Walleye in the morning was a bust just a couple small burbots. My new pike spot started good three bites and two fish in half hour then nothing for the next 1.5-2 hours so I went back to my old pike spot. Had several hit and runs caught an eater and a 35”. Then tried for walleye in the evening again had several follow but couldn’t get them to bite. At the end of the night landed an eater burbot and that a wrap for my season. My big plans for a limit of pike and a few walleye didn’t pan out so
I’ll be on fish rations till season opens back up in may lol
