I had to put down my best hunting partner this morning. They don't get any better.

Sorry to hear that. It doesn't help much now, I know, but at least you do have a lot of pictures and memories of him.

Condolences Miller...I've really enjoyed looking at your photos w/ him the last year or so.
How old was he?
I am definitely not looking forward to that day.

Uuhhhh man that sucks. Just from all your pics you could tell that he was a awesome dog. Better knock a few down for him this fall.

I am sorry to hear that Miller. He was part of the family here on HT for many years. I will miss all of the pics with Axl stealing the show.

ah man. That is sad. Sorry to hear it. Ive enjoyed your photos of hunting trips with Axel. Actually never seen anything like them. He was a champ im sure.

I'm feelin for ya Miller. Been there, done that. He looks like he was a great companion. Kinda sappy but I like this poem.

IF IT SHOULD BE

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand.
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years.
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
The time has come -- please let me go.

Take me where my need they'll tend,
And please stay with me till the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Please do not grieve -- it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years;
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

bumming out here.....

Sorry to hear that Craig, I know that dog meant as much to you as mine did to me so I know what you feel now. We will have to crack open a couple beers in his honor one night. I was really looking forward to seeing the old guy next month, But I was afraid this may happen since you told me he wasn't doing so well.
It's been 6 years now and I still miss that old yeller of mine. Maybe I was wrong in not getting a pup to help fill the void, but i just felt that I would not get one better than the one I lost and did not want to put myself through what you are going through now. Let me know if I was wrong, my guess is you will get a pup soon.

Yep...thats a real bummer for sure...sorry to hear it.

Season or not...I may have taken him hunting one last time.

My condolences Craig, that's got to be a hell of a loss.

I'd say he's in a better place, but I'm pretty sure he just left bird-dog heaven.
Judging by all your pictures, you gave that dog an incredible life.

Craig, so sorry to hear bout your pride and joy. I actually feel like I got to know the Ax thru your posted images over the years..........I'll raise a glass later today in his memory.
Take care,
WD

Real sorry to hear about the loss Craig. We all loved sharing photos of your adventures.
There are lots of stories being shared at the rainbow bridge today, that's for sure.
