There is a state that charges you the same price YOUR state charges non-residents for a fishing license. Maybe Delaware, or RI? Anyway, I am all for Montana no longer allowing anyone from VA to hunt elk. Seems fair.

I’m happy Virginia has succeeded in bringing their herd to this point.

I’m happy that they see the folly of preference point systems and the importance that hunters nationwide have in elk restoration, conservation and preservation of our hunting heritage.


I wish the “elk states” and maybe some conservation organizations kept this a little more in focus.

I’ll apply in Virginia proudly. Just like I do in Kentucky and Pennsylvania and will in North Carolina when we have an open hunt.

I view these as lottery tickets, much as I do applications in Utah or Arizona or New Mexico....but they’re also dollars towards the cause.

I also honestly feel that if the Montana power regime doesn’t change that my odds for a bull tag in Virginia might be as good as they are for an un guided bull hunt in Montana....and considering the numbers, I think that’s #@)(*%* up.

Mass decided to increase deer tags by $5 and people lost their GD minds about it.

That herd is held in trust for the residents of Virginia they should make up whatever system they feel is best. No matter what they decide it won't be as stupid as the Wyoming guide rule.
