I HATE to sit... Help!

For me being comfortable is key. I like to read hunt talk on my phone. But even with that im only good for about 4 hours. Then i get down go have lunch and maybe take a nap. After that im good for a 4 hour afternoon sit.

I can sit from sun up to sun down if I have confidence in where I'm sitting. Now if no confidence then I'm pressed to sit for more that 2-3hrs due to the greener grass thoughts that creep in...

I do that on Sundays watching football.

I've been hunting whitetail deer in Ohio for over 35 years. Most of my time is spent bow hunting from a tree stand. If sitting still doesn't come easy to you, here tips I've found helpful:

1) Get comfortable. If you're cold, cramped, or otherwise out of sorts, you can bet you won't last long.
2) Appreciate the woods and wildlife. I get almost as much pleasure watching foxes, raccoons, and squirrels, as I do from shooting a deer.
3) If possible rotate your stand locations or hunting areas. A slight change in scenery can go a long way to making the hunt more bearable.
4) Plan you hunt around times of high activity. Seems simple enough, but it's usually a waste of time (other than the rut) be sit for hours during the middle of the day.
5) Lastly, stay focused. In the whitetail game there is no substitute for paying your dues. More time in stand = more deer encounters.

Good Luck!!

Confidence is key in sitting in one spot. Scouting has told you that this is the best spot for the wind direction.

Get a turkey chair. It is a fold up chair that collapses into a bag and is very light. Very comfortable and perfect to shoot from with a shooting stick or off your knee. Take pruning sheers and make a brush blind that will conceal some movement. Pocket full of jolly ranchers.

In the west where you have lots of real estate to cover and can use a long range centerfire rifle, walking around a bit doing spot and stalk can be a very effective tactic for whitetails.
In the midwest our farms are too small, and the pressure is more intense and deer more jumpy, so about all walking around accomplishes is pushing them to your neighbor.

Butt pad that you can adjust the air in and loosening my boots just a tad so I can get a bit more air pockets in there. Just adding the butt pad is what did it for me. I can sit on a plane for five hours with no phone or book and just think the whole time though. Easier for some people to get through the mental part than others but all the physical stuff is fairly easily remedied.
