I broke one of the laces on my boot this morning...

And it got me to thinking that I could have had a major problem if I was a few miles back without laces in one of my boots. Does anybody keep an extra pair of laces in their pack? I usually have some paracord. Maybe that would work in a pinch. What are some other common things that could break and leave us in a jam that we don't usually think about?
 
I just tie a knot in the old lace. Paracord wont hold a knot worth a darn as laces.

That's what I did and would most likely work to get you out of a tough spot. Maybe it's possible to lose the broken end. Then you'd have to improvise.

The buckle on your backpack is a far greater issue, IMO. Some guys pack a spare. I always inspect before I take off. They are sorta easy to inadvertently step on them when on the ground, and crunch them on a rock. So watch where you step.
 
I always have laces and a bucket kit for my pack, you just never know and inevitably it will happen at the worst of times. SG has a spare buckle kit for their packs it has one of each style.

The buckle on your backpack is a far greater issue, IMO. Some guys pack a spare. I always inspect before I take off. They are sorta easy to inadvertently step on them when on the ground, and crunch them on a rock. So watch where you step.

That's a good one. It would suck to not be able to buckle the belt on your pack.

I have numerous extra buckles in a box that I never thought to pack along...thanks guys.
Ductape is always in my pack next to the T.P.,never without! 〽💥

Or slam in a car door...

I now make a habit of buckling my belt when in transit.
 
I use a product by New England ropes called dynaglide. It is rated to a 1000 lbs, thinner/lighter/better knotting ability than parachord. It’s arborist throwline. I have a 40ft section wound up to the size of a lighter in my bino chest pack. I use it for all kinds of things in the field.
 
Cabelas sells boot laces. They come in a long piece wrapped. You cut off off what you want for a new lace, burn the end and good to go. I carry it in my pack and glad I had it when my broke.
 
I carry too much stuff. Paracord, 1/4” braided nylon rope, 1/4” poly rope, and the usual emergency gear. But, something I think that could be as important as most equipment.....a roll of electrical tape. From taping the muzzle, piecing together a broken stock, can use with splint for a broken bone, it’s limits are limited only by your imagination! memtb
 
I definitely bring an extra set of boot laces. They don’t weigh anything and they stay in my bag with spare batteries for the headlamp. I’ve thought about throwing an extra pack buckle in the there. Probably should
 
What happens when you take your laces out before the season to wax/condition your boots and then forget to put them back in but only realize this mistake when you're 20 hours from home? Asking for a "friend" ;)
 
I grew up not knowing there was other kinds of boot laces besides leather. Still swap out for leather laces, just have to start with your new laces wrapping around the top of the boot 6 times to take up all the extra. If it breaks, tie it in a square not and keep on a trucking. If it's real bad, toss out the short piece and re-lace your boots.

Nothing stays tied like a leather lace tied in a square not.
