Hey All,

@R.K. you continued to stoke a fire in my belly. Serendipitously I met a bunch of guys from Pheasants Forever this week out hunting. This all led to “the talk.” My wife just green lit me to start researching a puppy for training this summer. We have two doodles I love dearly, but Leo was around before I was and Barli is Kim’s buddy.

My family is allergic to dogs. The doodles work. The first step is to decide on a breed. This will be a family dog, and hunting partner. I want him to hunt, and mountain bike with me. I had a trail dog once and loved it. He died tragically, but was a boxer before I met Kim.

I hunt big game, turkey, coyotes and more. I want to learn upland and waterfowl. I’d love to teach him to hunt sheds and blood track too.

I’m looking at pudelpointers right now. Thoughts? Other ideas? Breeders? @El Jason I expect input and wisdom.

So does the new dog need to be hypoallergenic?

Yep, that’s one reason I’m looking at the pudelpointer. I know there’s no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog, but more hypoallergenic is better. Less shedding, dander, and oily coat is critical.

Well, if we’re going to get into wishful thinking, I have to recommend this song as a reminder to ourselves as much as a plea to our wives. Play it once right before bed for maximum effect.

No dog is hypoallergenic, using the strict definition.

That said, I would suggest an Airedale (Skinner Airedales in WI is a good place to start).

Airedales are swiss army knives of dogs. Great hunters overall, good companions, great family dogs.

May just want to text Jason, he’s on a social media break.

I have to good friends that I consider dog experts - one is a Draht guy, the other a pudlepointer guy.

I’ll hit him up. We both failed to draw Oregon bear… then elbow surgery ended up wiping out Idaho prospects.

Hahaha! I love that song. I remember the first time heard it. Oddly hilarious and stimulating at the same time. Every middle school kids dream!
