Some of you know this story or some version of it....

Paid off my BHA life membership. Chose the Weatherby Mark V Camilla Ultra Lightweight in 6.5 WBY RPM for my granddaughter. She wants the rifle because it's cool, but it will be a least a year before she hunts with it. She has been shooting my low recoil loads out of my .264 WM so I'm sure I can make a load she can use for this rifle too.

I had the selfish idea to order a Peak44 stock for it to fit me. I happened on this today and I'm wondering the good and bad of Hydro Dipping.

Tell me your stories.

We have a local shop that does it, I’ve had a shotgun and two rifle stocks done. No issues with any of them, the 870 was a re-do and has held up better than the factory original.

Have had it done professionally and it turned out great and has held up tough hunts without issue. Tried a DIY project and it was an epic failure.

Just the kind of feedback I'm looking for.

I have had 2 done. Both are great and hold up perfect.

Researching this more, Gore-Tex doesn't release the Subalpine skins except for limited runs. I'm always dreaming about something I can't get.

I thought about doing hydrodipping as a business before. What really makes or breaks the quality of the project is the quality of the base coat paint used. If they're using some sort of exterior house paint quality(durability) can be an issue.

I’m sure it can be good. The only stock I’ve had it done on was dogshit. Was peeling before I received it.

It heavily depends on the quality of the prep, like most coatings do. I had a Howa with a dipped Hogue stock a few years ago and the camo print started coming off on my hands in the rain one day. I had a discussion with How and they made it right with a new HS Precision stock, seems they had a few problems with that run if hydro-dipped stocks.
