If the TV guide is to believed HuntTalker "devon deer" hosts Dr James Kroll ("doctor deer") in England to "observe and hunt roe deer". 5 pm central time. Cheers in advance Richard.

Thanks matey, yep its me with James Kroll.
What did you think of the show?
I haven't seen the finished show.
Cheers
Richard

I have the recorder set. Will air here in 90 minutes. It will be fun to here your voice as till now it's only been print and pics.

Well done Richard. Dr Kroll called you " the most aggressive deer hunter in England". First hunting sequence is you calling in the doe but not the buck. Dr Deer spent a fair amount of time comparing roe vs whitetails. He said he had wanted to take roe two ways.... Calling and stalking.

I had almost nailed your accent and speaking voice in my head. I guess I was a bit surprised to not see you in knee high pants suit coat and tie of a "proper ghillie" but definitely approve of the full face camo netting. .

Of the thirty minute show, your roe deer segment was shown first and lasted about eight minutes total. Well done sir.

That's pretty sweet Richard. Wish I had the Sportsman Channel so I can see it. Someone needs to post it to YouTube.

Thanks chaps.
I had enough of dressing in a shirt and tie when i had job, cammo for me now.
He was with me for 5 days with his cameraman, its tough enough hunting the roe buck on your own as they are so alert, but with 2 others following its a tough job.
The first 4 outings resulted in only seeing females (as you saw) and to be honest (and i'm sure Randy can relate to this) i started to get a tad stressed, although i tried not to show it, James sensed it and gave me reassuring words of encouragement, but just thinking they had travelled all the way and not got a roe buck was playing on my mind.
But the next evening worked a treat, it was during the rut and the Roe buck emerged from the wood, really pissed at me for using the call, up on the sticks (did you like my sticks? you should try them, just like shooting off a bipod) and he nailed it, job done, everyone can relax, down to the pub for a pint!
Next morning a slow stalk around the fields and we came across a tired rutted out buck, job done, back to the pub for a fry up!
Cheers
Richard

Kroll is a captivating speaker and author. He spoke at our university's fine art center here a few years back to an overflowing crowd. Very interesting fellow.

Sweet gig devon.

Congrats on getting to spend some time with Dr. Kroll. Growing up I poured over every issue of North American Whitetail that my dad got. In doing so I read a lot of Dr. Kroll's early 'mainstream' articles. Those articles became a large reason why I've pursued an education and career in natural resources. I tried every which way I could think of my junior and senior year to get into the grad school at Stephen F. Austin State to be able to work with and learn from Dr. Kroll. As is pretty evident that didn't work out, but in the few emails/phone calls I had with him he seemed like a very knowledgable and understanding professor.

I've watched it a couple times and it was neat to put a face on Richard as a part of this site. I'm glad it was Dr. Kroll that Richard guided because if it was Stan "give me second" Potts, who is one of the show co-hosts, he would have probably shot him, LOL!

So i didn't have my face veil on all the time?:D
Both Dr Kroll and his cameraman, Nolan Swinghammer (my wifes jaw hit the deck when she met Nolan!) were great company, and very quiet when out actually stalking the deer.
Stan sounds an interesting guy:eek:
I will contact them over the youtube clip, but don't hold your breath, i imagine they won't consider that until the show has run its course.

Cheers

Nolan Swinghammer...what a great name for the film industry...has a Dirk Diggler ring to it.:D

Yep, what a great name.

I finally got to see it, its total crap the camera adds 10lb, it added 50lb in my case!
Just glad i got a lot fitter when i came over to visit Montana last November.
The funny thing is my mother-ln-law was itching to see it, so i showed her yesterday, along with the father-in-law and my wife.
There was lots of leg pulling until the kill shot, then an awkward silence (which is what i expected, although i did warn her) 'oh what a shame she said, such a pretty deer', but before i could draw breath my wife jumped to my defense, 'what do you mean mother? the deer need to be controlled, we have just eaten beef, where do you think that came from?' wow, what a put down, she was lost for words, funny thing is my wife was the same mindset when i met her 28 years ago, i think she has a good grasp of what we do now and why we do it, not sure about her mother though!

Cheers

Richard
