As for rational bidding . . . I once paid $800 for a single tray of special K bars at a charity auction that had a live auctioneer caller. They were tasty - and I baited the losing bidder to honor his bid of $775 for a second tray. $1,575 for $8 worth of snacks -- but for a cause.
