Being a life-long hunter has literally no relation to how someone handles an emergency. Hell, life-long cops have regularly reacted wrong and perceived things wrong in mass shootings.
He actually dragged wounded people to safety while under fire so I would say he handled it pretty well.

Fair enough. I imagine with high rate of fire not trained at any particular target, there had to be ricochets and the chaos of it all would make it hard to identify the source in the moment. Is it possible there were bystanders/concealed carry people trying to return fire?
