Howdy from the Panhandle

Howdy folks... I just stumbled across this place tonight and thought I'd drop in for a spell. I'm originally from the Copper Center/Glenallen area but have been stationed with the Military in Detroit, MI (properly pronounced: "Dee-Toilet") for the past 7 yrs. Long story short, they finally sent me up to Ketchikan (not quite home but it's a start). But, since I've never spent any time in the SE I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the proper direction... what to hunt, where to hunt it, how it tastes; you know, just the important stuff...

John, We don't have the Most Actuive AK section on the Net but we have a Friendly bunch when they are around While it's the Weekend and slow, Let me pop in first off by welcomeing you to our site and Saying how Envious I am You're in AK Although the winters are a little long.... the hunting makes up for it I hear !!

"Dee-Toilet" ? I'm been to many a States and towns were I thought that was how they should pronounce it.. HAH A!!!

Buy a boat this winter. 20 foot skiff (or so).

Biggest black bears in the state are in SE. Plus Sitka deer, a smattering of Roosevelt elk, coastal brownies, goats....then there's the fishing

Ha! For clarification sake, between my 90lb. wife on one side of me in bed and my 190lb dog on the other, I'm lucky if I can catch a breath, much less a draft! Out of curiosity, why is it that a dog that's not afraid to tackle a full grown black bear absolutely refuses to sleep anywhere other than next to/on top of you?

Welcome John !! Wish I was there too. Seems like any good dog wants to sleep on or next to you. Its good when the Mrs. dosnt object either.......lol. Happy hunting and would like to see more pics of AK.
