How long did it take for your first elk?

My first bull with rifle was in Idaho when I was 16. First year elk hunting with my dad and brother. First morning I hike 3.5 miles up a drainage and sat on a spring for about 45 min and had a5x5 walk to with in 60 yards and shot him. He fell not 10ft from me. My first bull with bow was in Montana, probably 3rd elk hunt with now and shot him at 32 yards a 6x6 on the first day of the 2nd trip out that year. God I love elk hunting!!
