How do you dispatch wounded birds?

The head smack has never worked for me. I always wring the neck. For uplands, I spin until the neck breaks, then tuck the head under the wing, hold the wings together while I put it in the vest. Seems to help with flapping

Bite the head. Can get a little bloody occasionally and Canadas can take some work.

I haven’t had the best luck with geese but this is my go to for ducks

I typically bite their heads. Very effective and cheap, only get blood squirt every once in a while.

Not sure I would want to be chewing on the heads of birds. Especially now Bird flu is so prevelent in water fowl populations.
Best method I have found for dealing with everything from doves to geese is to use what the scottish salmon fishermen call a "priest". To give the bird a coupe de grace on the back of the head. Its call a priest as it delivers the last rites.

Ringing necks for 30 years. Geese and some ducks are tough sometimes. Recently got one of these gadgets, immediate nighty night.

This is the easiest option bar none. After years of wringing goose and ducks necks you simply push this in at the base of the skull and they are dead.

I have a personal vendetta with geese. I’m afraid it would feel good to strangle them.If ammo were cheaper I would just shoot them again in the head.

Not my choice! Blood will rust the bluing almost instantly.

One of the first things you learn waterfowl hunting is you’re gear takes a beating. Why would anyone take a fragile piece of gear to the marsh?
