I tried some superformance .243 95 gr sst on antelope this year and had complete pass throughs on all 3 antelope,,,dropped them fast,I was impressed with that little bullet.

Shoots great out of my savage 25-06 117gr sst.Shot a few pronnghorns and some whitetails with it.

Used the 139 gr. in 7mm08. Had about a 3 1/2" exit wound in antelope after going though shoulder, pass though on two deer. Off the bench I shot an amazing .380" 5 shot group at 200 yds. Very impressed with the sst's

SST's are th bomb!

I have shot them for several years in several calibers, and I've killed lots of deer with them, from huge bodied muleys to whitetails of every size. They are basically like a Nosler Ballistic Tip in that they fly well and open fast, although I believe that they are a slightly tougher bullet than the NBT.

Im running the sst in my 270 at the moment. Most accurate bullets ive shot out of it yet. Any one try these on elk yet? Ive been told to be careful with them due to there fast expansion.

They are a good, accurate bullet, BUT I have seen how they dynamite on small white-tail does. They are not an elk bullet, but are fine for deer. I want something that I know will stay together on an elk. Antelope don't count, as anything kills antelope just fine.

I used the 270 SST this yr. Very accurate and fine performance on goats and deer. Jon Boy questioned their performance on elk, I watched as my boy and his buddy snuck in on a herd and the bull was shot with a 130 grain SST, high shoulder shot from ~420 yds...complete pass thru and put him straight down.

Pretty impressive ammo, however, I noticed that the action gets a little tight pushing these into the chamber (shooting a 2 yr old Savage all american) which I don't have when using Federal ammo?

I think that at extended ranges, it will be fine, as the velocity has dropped substantially. They are not what I would pick if the shots could be close on elk, though, based on my own experience with 150 grain from a .308. An expensive hunt for a tough animal needs a tough bullet.

I was thinking the same thing at short distances. Having said that when shooting an elk at any distance with any 270 bullet I try and stay away from the shoulder at all costs. I think If you dont hit the shoulder blade at short range it would transfer enough shock to put one down in a hurry.
A lot of people suggested accubonds to me last year for a good elk bullet. My brother and I both shot our deer with them between 100-150 yards and that bullet exploded on both deers shoulders. The entrance wounds were the size of soft balls but the exits were tiny and looked like a large piece of shrapnel made it all the way through. So I won't be shooting elk in the shoulder with those either.

I run the Hornady Custom in .300 win mag. Never failed to shoot sub MOA groups. You can't go wrong with the capital H.

Any bullet can be problematic as far as meat damage at close range. Hitting bone at close range with most high-powered rifle is going to lead to damage largely because of velocity. The front shoulders do not have enough meat on them to be concerned about, but I understand your concern.

I have never found a rifle that would not shoot the standard Interlock Hornady rifle bullets and I have never had one fail me. I would take them hands-down over the SST for dependability. The GMX is a great bullet, but I do know that some rifles do not shoot them well. I shot 175 Interlocks and Partitions for years and had no problems with either one. They shot same point of impact, so could be used interchangably. I have, however, settled on 160 Nosler Partitions at 3004 fps as my go-to load for my 7 mag. It shoots sub-minute in my rifles and performs well. I think the 160 is where the 7 mag belongs.
