I went on a group hunt last weekend on federal land in south Texas. It was a good hunt for me. I got two javelinas, the annual limit, and a hog. Some others shot hogs and javelinas two and one guy got a bobcat.

Here's the first javelina I got.

We call this guy, Big Steve. He's from Kansas.

He made an impressive 200 yard shot on the bobcat as it was walking away.
Then the next day he missed twice before he hit a javelina at 192 yards, so his good shooting glory didn't last long. It was fun to go on a south Texas blood trail with him. He had to shoot the javelina again with the pistol, deal with the cactus, the teeth chomping. It almost got away, but he got a javelina too. He learned about the thick south Texas brush county. Its cactus and everything can stick you, but it comes out 20% protein and deer thrive there.

Its federal land with access controlled by the military. Lots of military bases have some public hunting, but its hard to figure out, I think, without going there with somebody.
